Design Destination: Trim Work

Wood work, Trim Work, Wainscoting, it is called many different things, and I love it no matter what name it goes by. If you couldn't figure out what that picture in my previous post was (I can't blame you if you were stumped, it was a horrible picture), it was a picture of the chalk lines our finish carpenters put up to guide them on a project they are doing in our family room. We have decided to add some additional wood work to our home. While our home does have some wood work in it, my love of pretty painted white trim left me longing for more. Besides adding some board and batten to the family room, we are also adding 6 inch crown moulding to all of the bedrooms and the office, as well as adding some trim treatments to the kids' rooms. Don't get me wrong, some of the most beautifully decorated rooms I have ever seen have had almost no trim work in them at all. I don't think that wood work is necessary to create a fabulous space, but for me, in my own home, it is a must. If you follow me on Pinterest, this fact will come as no surprise to you. Many of the rooms in my Lovely Spaces board reflect my love of painted trim. Here are a few of my favorites...

And just to illustrate my point, here is a stunning room by the incredibly talented Sarah Richardson. Notice the lack of any trim work...and yet...just as lovely as the rest.

So, do you prefer trim work in your own home, or would you rather live without it? You know where I stand! I can't wait for all of the wainscot to go up and get painted, so I can show you the end result!

Up and Running

We are slowly getting settled into our new home. We finally had our broadband switched on and I can now access the internet! Yeah! I've got tons of client work and blogging to catch up on and I am really excited to get back into it full swing. We have already started on a couple of projects on our new home! We did move into a beautiful, brand new home, but the designer in me can't help but tweak a couple of things. Here's a sneak peak to get your mind turning...

Forgive me for the poor picture. I took this at 11:00 at night. Can you see it though? It's going to be fabulous...I promise! More to come...

Moving Day!

I am happy to announce that we are finally moving into our new home! Almost a month later than we expected, the sale of our home finally closed and we were able to complete the purchase of our new home! I still can't believe it is actually happening. If you have heard nightmare worthy stories from people who have gone through the home selling/buying process, I am fairly sure the details of our experience would rank right up there with the worst of them. At the end of the day, prayers have been answered and we know that we are finally going to be in the home and place we were meant to be. Thanks so much for your patience and support over the last few weeks while we were trying to sort through everything. I promise that things on the blog will return to normal shortly. Stay tuned for pictures from our new place!

Minneapolis Dream Home

Today I wanted to share with you this gorgeous 2011 Fall Dream Home designed by Martha O'Hara Interiors out of Minneapolis, MN. When I stumbled upon this home, while perusing Houzz, I was immediately drawn in and I quickly fell in love! I adore everything about this light filled home from the numerous large windows to the gorgeous white kitchen and that dark high shine floor! The yellow and gray decor is calling my name as well!

Happy Mother's Day!

via
Wishing all of you Mothers out there, as well as all of those with a Mother's heart, a very Happy Mother's Day! I hope you are able to spend this special day surrounded by the people that you love. I feel very blessed I was bestowed the calling of a Mother to my three beautiful children. Though the task of being a mom can be rough at times, the joy I feel as I tend to my children each day is much greater. Today, I am most grateful for my sweet mother and mother-in-law. Both of whom are shining examples to me of the influence of good a mother can be for her children and grandchildren. The unconditional love, care, support and selfless service they offer is a testament to the amazing women they are. I pray each day that I can have the strength to follow in their footsteps. I love you both so very much!

Changing out the pillows on a sofa or bed can create such a dramatic change in the feel of a room. It is an easy and affordable way to give any room a face lift. Etsy is such a great resource for designer pillows. It is my go to when choosing fabulous and affordable pillow options for my clients. Here are a few from Etsy that I am currently loving.

E-Design Board: Coastal Living Room

Let me begin by giving my sincere "Thanks" to those of you who have offered words of support, encouragement and prayers in regards to our home buying/selling situation. Your kindness is helping sustain me and helping me stay positive. I know that we will be in our new home soon enough! Again, "Thank You!"

I've recently had the opportunity to work on an E-Design for a client who wanted to transform her living room into a coastal inspired oasis to remind her of her days growing up on the California coast.  She wanted to retain some of the key pieces of furniture in the room since they were somewhat of an investment and fairly new. We decided to keep her leather sofa and the wooden arm chair. The armchair will be painted a creamy white and reupholstered and the leather sofa will get a fresh look by adding some throw pillows. Here is what her living room looks like now...

And here is the Design that I came up with for her...

I tried to achieve a fresh, coastal feel without making it scream "theme." I am thrilled my client was happy with the design. She and her hubby have already painted the room and purchased many of the pieces for the space. I can't wait to share the after pictures with you once I receive them!
